Close contact - Skin contact1) with an individual diagnosed with scabies- Sexual contact with an individual diagnosed with scabies (especially, nodular scabies)- Brief direct contact with linens (such as towels, clothing, and bedding) used by an individual diagnosed with scabies (especially, crusted scabies)
High-risk groups - Family members, housemates, and sex partners living with an individual diagnosed with scabies- Healthcare workers, caregivers, and inpatients who share the living environment of an individual diagnosed with scabies (occupational exposures)- A person who has handled linens (towels, clothing, and bedding) of an individual diagnosed with scabies
At least 5–10 minutes of close and continuous contact for acquiring classic scabies (a simple touch, handshake, and hugs are not generally included, except in crusted scabies).
