Journal Practices
7. Publication ethics and related editorial policies
https://www.e-emj.org/info/ethics
EMJ adheres to the guideline of COPE (https://publicationethics.org), Recommendations of International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (https://www.icmje.org/recommendations).
- Research and publication ethics: https://www.e-emj.org/info/ethics
- Editorial policy: https://www.e-emj.org/info/policy
The Editorial Board of EMJ carefully examines whether all submitted manuscripts abide the ethical guidelines of ICMJE and COPE. Published articles should include statements of conflict of interest, authors’ contribution, ethics committee or Institutional Review Board approval, informed consent, and human/animal rights.
In case the journal faces suspected cases of research and publication misconduct, such as redundant (duplicate) publication, plagiarism, fraudulent or fabricated data, changes in authorship, an undisclosed conflict of interest, ethical problems with a submitted manuscript, a reviewer who has appropriated an author’s idea or data, complaints against editors, and so on, the resolution process will follow the flowchart provided by COPE (https://publicationethics.org/resources/flowcharts). The discussion and decision on the suspected cases are carried out by the Editorial Board. EMJ will not hesitate to publish errata, corrigenda, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when needed.
8. Peer review
https://www.e-emj.org/info/policy#t2
All papers, including those invited by the editor, are subject to peer review. EMJ uses a double-blind peer review process, which means that author identities are concealed to the reviewers, and vice versa, and the identities of the reviewers and authors are visible to decision-making editor throughout the review process. The editor selects reviewers based on expertise, publication history, and past reviews. During the peer review process, reviewers can interact directly or exchange information (e.g., via submission systems or email) with only an editor, which is known as “independent review.” An initial decision will normally be made within 2 weeks after the reviewers agree to review a manuscript. No information about the review process or editorial decision process is published on the article page.
All manuscripts from editors, employees, or members of the Editorial Board are processed in the same way as other unsolicited manuscripts. However, those authors will not engage in the selection of reviewers and the decision process. Editors will not handle their manuscripts even if the manuscripts are commissioned. All articles in EMJ include the dates of submission, revision, acceptance, and publication on their article page.
EMJ uses an online submission and peer review system, accessible at. Further details on the peer review process can be found at https://www.e-emj.org/info/guideline.
9. Access
https://www.e-emj.org/info/policy#t3
